Mexico: FIFA World Champion 2010?!

Viva la Mexico?

Despite the fact that Germany will earn it’s 4th star ;) , wouldn’t it be awesome if the country you’re going to visit wins the FIFA Worldcup a few days before?

The chances for this scenario to get real are pretty low. They never won a quarter final and even just got there one time out of twelve attempts.

Also the draw agains South Africa yesterday was very lucky. Easily it could have been a 3:1 one loss.

We’ll see, and I’m sure ready to celebrate anything anywhere. :D

How dangerous is Mexico?

As a typical – and therefore quite fussy :D – German I recently checked the website of our Federal Foreign Office for security information about Mexico.

The concerns about my security had come to life because of the warnings from distant relatives who are curently living in the San Antonio area. My Grandmother’s sister (who went to America with a GI after the WWII) and her whole family tried to persuade me to cancel my trip.

Sure I was aware of the fact that travelling to Mexico will be far less secure than Europe or even N.Y., but after studying the information from our Foreign Office I have to admit: It’s not more/less worse than I expected.

Sure thing this will be just for minutes but I had to shoot it! Got ya! :D

Now when I’m here already I would like to congratulate Twitter for hitting the 2 billion tweets mark in May 2010. Way to go!

Checklist – my new passport

Passport © mattstravelblog.org

Thought it would be time to introduce a new series to my blog: “Checklist”. Coincidentally I was able to pickup my new passport today which led me to the start topic right away.

I’m proudly presenting my new biometric passport: the ePass! Even if its full with (more or less) state of the art electronic, it seems embarrassingly cheap in your hand. As I recall from my childhold there was a time when a passport was thick, with a heavy and sturdy cover. Obviously these times are over.

Credit card madness

Some days it’s hard to find a topic to write about, but not today. :)

During my Nutella based breakfast I was going through the daily mail. Between the typical ads and bills I found a letter from my German Automobil Association called ADAC. Slightly confused I opened the letter just to find two new credit cards.

After I managed the first daze I began to read the letter:

Dear Matt [...] we’re sending these two credit cards to you because you’re a long time member.” Nice, but I didn’t order or want them. The letter went on, “ [...] if you like to keep and use these you have to activate them during the next four weeks.” I guess I should be glad that they don’t have to be canceled within the next four weeks. Anyway, here I am with two new credit cards…

A glimpse at the route

Biometric passport troubles

ePass

Reisefreudig - © RainerSturm / pixelio.de

Germany. The country of bright engineers, beer and sausages, introduced a new passport (ePass) years ago. One goal which had to be achieved was to carry biometric data, like fingerprints, within the passport. This would soon be needed to enter countries like the U.S.A., UK and of course countries of the Europe Union.

Besides the peoples fear of being traceable and easily controllable, the new passport would be solid German engineering. At least that is what we thought.

But there is one mean flaw which could jeopardize your travel plans. Curious?
